Weddings

WeddingCongratulations on your engagement! We are excited that you are considering the First United Methodist Church of Blairstown as part of your wedding plans. We look forward to being a part of your wedding service, which we believe to be a religious worship service, and a celebration of your love and commitment to each other and to God. By choosing our church as your wedding location, or our pastor as your officiant, we want you to understand that we will treat your wedding as a sacred ceremony in which you invite God’s presence and ask for God’s blessing upon your marriage.

The pastor of our church officiates at weddings at our church, and at off-site weddings for church members. Guest clergy may assist, or officiate alongside our pastor upon request with approval, but our sanctuary is not available to weddings that are not led by our pastor.

The pastor will meet with couples 4-5 times before the wedding day for pre-marital counseling, and to discuss and plan the wedding service. A wedding rehearsal is typically scheduled the day before the wedding. It is important that all participants be present for the rehearsal.

A marriage license is required by the State of New Jersey. Marriage licenses are obtained from the municipal clerk in the home town of the bride or groom, and are good for 60 days.

Under the current polity of the United Methodist Church, we are unable to perform same gender weddings.
