Part-Time: 10,000 – 12,000/year

The First United Methodist Church of Blairstown seeks a part-time music leader and musician who loves Jesus is passionate about the ministry of the Church and seeks to draw people deeper into their faith through engaging and spirit-filled contemporary and traditional Christian music. The ideal candidate will plan and implement the musical components of the worship services with our worship team, and develop additional opportunities to engage people of all ages in the music ministry. The First United Methodist Church of Blairstown is a vibrant multi-generational community of faith located in the beautiful hills of Warren County, New Jersey. Our blended worship service gathers an average of 60 people on Sunday mornings and seeks to engage people in a relationship with Jesus the Christ that is transformational both in their personal lives and in the communities that we live in.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide musical leadership and accompaniment for the congregation and worship team during Sunday morning worship services, special services, and rehearsals. Musical offerings may include congregational hymns and songs, worship team anthems, and instrumental pieces. Work with the pastor to select music for worship services from a variety of contemporary and traditional styles that support the service’s theme, reflect our Wesleyan heritage, and connect with the members of our congregation. Build up and nurture musicians, both spiritually and musically, to lead music in worship. Recruit and facilitate participation from all age groups. Schedule and lead appropriate rehearsals. Recruit and prepare substitute musicians to lead worship musically during scheduled absences, in consultation with the pastor. Provide music for weddings and funerals. (Stipend will be determined in consultation with the music leader. )
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS Committed disciple of Jesus Christ, seeking to know, love and serve God & neighbor, and to continually grow in God’s grace. Passion and vision for including praise music along with upbeat traditional Christian music in worship ministry in order to contribute to worship vitality and multi-generational community. Skilled keyboard or guitar player, with the ability to lead other instrumentalists and vocalists. Experience in directing volunteer musical ensembles and a praise & worship team in a church setting. Ability to work well with others and participate collegially with staff members, pastors, congregational leaders, and congregation. Willingness to represent the values of this congregation and the United Methodist Church. Available for Sunday worship services, and other key events in the life of the church including, but not limited to Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Christmas Eve. Comply with all FUMCB conditions of employment and the church’s hiring policies.
HOURS Tasks are expected to take 6-8 hours per week, and include selecting music, providing music and musical leadership for the worship services, coordinating Worship Team rehearsals, and personal practice time.
COMPENSATION Paid on a salary basis. Starting salary range will depend on qualifications and experience. Four Sundays off per year. This is a part-time position and does not include pension or health care benefits.
