It’s baseball playoff season! For many teams and fans, the season is over, and it’s time to enjoy some other sports and make plans for next year. For some, though, it’s time to dig deep and let all of the lessons and hard work of the past 162 games come face to face with the best of the best. If you were to imagine yourself on a team that has already hit the golf courses, or that is still hitting the baseball diamond and competing for the crown, what will make the different between having a satisfying season, and having a less than satisfying one?
This is the question that is facing Paul as he concludes his second and final letter to Timothy. What defines a life well lived? For Paul, the answer comes down to 2 words: Poured Out. He has given life his all, and because of that he has no regrets, despite having ended up in a Roman jail awaiting execution.
Thankfully, most of our faith journeys will not lead us to the same circumstances as Paul, but his words to Timothy offer us an opportunity to consider an important question: how will we define our life as one well lived?
