During a confirmation class, the pastor asked a group of mostly 13- and 14-year-old students to name some things Christians — and specifically United Methodists — do that most other people do not. One of the girls raised her hand and said with a smile, “We dunk our bread in grape juice.”
This Sunday, we will celebrate the sacrament of communion as part of our worship service. It is much more than simply dunking our bread in juice. It is an opportunity to remember all that God has done for us through Jesus the Christ, to reaffirm all that Jesus continues to do in us through his grace, and to reunite as the body of Christ in the ministry that Christ has set before us.
Whether you join us in person or online, whether you are a member of our church or not, you are invited to participate in this ritual. If you are joining us from home, bring some bread or crackers, and some juice or water with you to your worship time. Once we consecrate the elements as part of the worship service, you will be able to share the meal with us in Spirit.
