In Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical “Hamilton”, Alexander Hamilton meets Aaron Burr for the first time. During the encounter, Burr offers the young value-driven Hamilton some advice that defines their rocky relationship”:

“Talk less … smile more … don’t let them know what you’re against or what you’re for … you wanna to get ahead? … Fools who run their mouths off wind up dead.”

Burr is the epitome of political correctness while Hamilton is a person who lives out his values and fights heroically for the new nation during the Revolutionary War and beyond. But in the end, he does in deed wind up dead at the hand of Aaron Burr.

Regardless of which person you believe chose the wiser course to live their life, we all have values and all understand the daily choices we make to live them out. When do we raise our voices? When do we remain silent? What values are worth standing up for? How do we renew ourselves and keep ourselves grounded in our beliefs?

Jesus and the Apostle Paul knew a thing or two about living our their values and the costs of doing so. And they also have much to offer us about how to renew ourselves as we do the same. Join us for worship this Sunday at 10 a.m. online or in our sanctuary as we explore how we can gain the strength we need to live our our Christian values.
