With the advent of social media, it seems like a whole new vocabulary has entered our conversations. When we find someone or a business intriguing and we want to learn more about them, we “follow” them. And when we see something that they post that captures our attention or that we want to affirm, we “like” that post. And if that post REALLY resonates with us, we then “share” it on our own social media pages so we can tell others about it.

Wait a minute… Follow. Like. Share. Where have I seen these words used before? Hmmm… Seems to me what’s old is new again. In the first chapter of John’s gospel, Jesus encounters some fishermen who are searching for more in life and invites them to follow him. Then in the last chapter of John Jesus encounters these same fishermen who are having trouble living up to their name. This time he not only invites them to follow him, but also to share what they have discovered after they realized they loved him.

Follow. Like. Share. It seems what’s old is indeed new again. If you were intrigued by the events of Easter, perhaps it’s time to follow Jesus and discover all there is to love about him. Once you do, you’ll want to share it with your friends – sounds like an “Uprising of Discipleship” to me! Want to learn more? Join us for worship this Sunday at 10a in our sanctuary.
