Words matter. Your voice matters. What you say matters.
Consider this. You wake up one morning ready to start your day. Maybe you linger in bed thinking about your to do list, or something that happened the day before. As you begin to get ready for the day, you take our your phone and read a text, an email, a news story, or something on your social media feed that catches your attention. Suddenly you’re thinking about something you weren’t even aware of 5 minutes ago. Why? Because someone made you aware of it using their voice or words.
Consider this. You’ve lived in a place for over a decade and never went in to a particular store or restaurant before, because it never caught your interest. One day, a friend of yours shares a great experience they had there and can’t believe that you never went there. Before you know it, you’re walking through the door of that establishment. Why? Because someone changed your impression of that place using their voice or words.
Your voice is powerful. You can change the trajectory of someone’s day simply by making them aware of something they weren’t thinking about. You can share a vision of possibility that they never knew existed. Or you can introduce them to a new experience or relationship, simply by using your voice or words.
This Sunday, we’ll have the opportunity to hear voices that changed the trajectory of people’s lives and even the conversation of a nation. As we do, we’ll consider how God is inviting us to use the Power in Our Voice to share in the ongoing revelation of Emmanuel, God’s presence among us. I hope you’ll join us!
