“Money, money, money, money … MONEY!”

In 1974, a group called the O’Jays released a song called “For the Love of Money” that reached #9 on the Billboard music charts. Today, the song is probably better known as the theme song to the TV show “The Apprentice”, which ran on NBC from 2004 – 2017. The lyrics are deeply insightful in the ways money can influence our lives:

“For the love of money, People will lie, Lord, they will cheat. For the love of money, People don’t care who they hurt or beat. For the love of money, A woman will sell her precious body. For a small piece of paper it carries a lot of weight

“Call it lean, mean, mean green … Almighty dollar

“I know money is the root of all evil; Do funny things to some people. Give me a nickel, brother can you spare a dime; Money can drive some people out of their minds!”

Maybe it’s no wonder that Jesus spent so much of his time talking about people’s relationship with money, because it sure can mess with our relationship with God and our relationships with each other!

This Sunday at 10:00a, we will spend some time reflecting on part 2 of Luke 16, and the story of a rich man and Lazarus. As we do, I invite you to pay attention to your reaction to Jesus’ messages about wealth and Abraham’s message to the rich man’s brothers. I know it will be worth our time!
