Let’s step back in time for a moment. You grew up in the mid 1800’s, and you’ve spent your entire life either walking from place to place or at best riding on horseback. You dream of a time when you could see more of the country, or travel from place to place in a few hours instead of a few days. Then one day, someone tells you of a fantastic invention called an automobile that would allow you to travel quickly without the use of a horse. Too good to be true?

Not too long ago in our history, the answer would most certainly be yes, and yet today, cars are commonplace and our dreams have turned to electric powered vehicles, or even everyday flying transportation. Who knows what the future may hold!

We’ve all heard of stories that go well beyond our definition of what is possible, and yet again and again that threshold is crossed and our definition is expanded. This Sunday, as we continue our Advent journey of coming alive in the story of Jesus, we encounter four individuals who have received news that is hard to believe. One scoffs and is left speechless, while the others are curious and wonder how.

How would you receive the news from the archangel about God’s work in the world? How might these stories invite you to expand your notions of what is possible in our world? Join us for worship this Sunday in person or online as we join the Women on the Edge of what is possible.
