“I love a parade, the tramping of feet, I love every beat I hear of a drum. I love a parade, when I hear a band I just want to stand and cheer as they come.”

How many of you love parades? As a child, I remember the excitement I felt every Fourth of July in my home town. Each year, people would come from all over to celebrate our nation’s independence with bands, fire trucks, military vehicles, and local groups. Afterwards, everyone gathered in the town park to enjoy food and games. It was a great day to be a kid!

This Sunday, as we celebrate the beginning of Holy Week, we will hear about a different kind of parade celebrating a very different kind of freedom. Jesus’ march into Jerusalem wasn’t accompanied by trucks or bands or displays of military might, and yet the crowds couldn’t help but shout their cheers of “hosanna.”

What are we to make of Jesus’ parade of sorts? What was he marching for? What was he marching towards? Join us for worship this Sunday at 10 a.m. as we sing our “hosannas” and join Jesus in his Peace March into our lives.
