It is the quandary of the modern age. Your phone rings and the caller is unidentified – what do you do: do you answer the phone or let it go to voicemail? Many of you will probably let the call go to voicemail, but for some will answer the call, only to discover that the call came from an unknown person wanting something from them. Robocalls have become a modern-day nuisance for many and a nightmare for many others. Too many unsuspecting people have fallen prey to scammers posing as well-meaning salespeople, or even worse, authority figures trying to help them avoid a difficult situation. in response, we have become rightly skeptical of unknown callers, wanting to ensure that they mean to do us no harm before we open ourselves up to their message. A long time ago, an Israelite named Nathaniel was skeptical when his brother told him about a new teacher he wanted to introduce him from. After all, what good ever came from a backwater town like Nazareth. But something about his interaction with Jesus disarmed him and told him this was someone he needed to follow. What was it about their interaction that made Nathaniel want to come and see? How can his story speak to us in our modern day journeys of faith as we seek to build upon the epiphanies that God has shared with us? Join us online for worship this Sunday at 10 a.m., or whenever you can join us, as we continue our journey of discovery during this season of Epiphany and continue to allow God to reveal more and more about Emmanuel, God with us. |
