Like many people, I’ve developed some new hobbies during the pandemic. One of them is kayaking. I had never kayaked before 2020, but then one day a congregation member offered to take my family for a trip down the Paulinskill in his kayaks.
It was magical! At the end of a hot summer day, we suddenly felt transported to a place far away. The air was cool, the scenery was beautiful, and the flow of the river just took us for a ride. It was as if we had traveled far away for a vacation even though we were literally just down the street from our house!
Part of the enjoyment of our trip was that we just went where the flow of river took us. Yes, we directed our course left or right, but at no point did any of us suggest that we should paddle up stream and fight the current. We simply let it take us on a trip at its own pace.
After proclaiming with the people who were gathered with Jesus’ first disciples on the day of Pentecost that, “the Spirit is Moving!” and confessing our desire to harness its power last Sunday, this week we will consider how we align our lives with the movement of the Holy Spirit.
How do we change course when we want to straight and the Spirit is moving to the right or even in the opposite direction? How do we move when the Spirit is moving and all we want to do is stop? Join us for worship Sunday at 10 a.m. in person or online as Susan Bowman leads us in Moving with the Spirit.
