Spreading the Love of Christ
On the night before Jesus gave his life for ours, he asked his followers to do one last thing: love one another.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-5)
Like our knowledge of God, our love for God is expressed in individual and communal ways. Individually, we show it by doing good works, visiting the sick and those in prison, feeding the hungry, and giving generously to the needs of others. As a group, we demonstrate it by seeking justice, ending oppression and discrimination (for instance Wesley challenged Methodists to end slavery), and addressing the needs of the poor.
Feeding Those in Need
Our food pantry ministry provides people in our community with fresh produce, frozen meats, grocery items, and personal products. Food is available to anyone who needs it, regardless of their situation. Patrons are able to select the food they need much like they would in a grocery store.
The pantry is staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers and supported by generous members of our community. Donations may be dropped off in the donation bin by the kitchen entrance. The pantry is open on the first Saturday of the month.
Compassionate Christian Care
We all know what it’s like to experience a low point in our lives. Whether it’s due to the loss of a loved one, an illness, a financial setback, or any other type of challenging situation, sometimes we just need a shoulder to lean on. Our church’s Stephen Ministry offers compassionate Christian care to people who just need someone to talk with.
The ministry is staffed with well trained volunteers who are ready to listen and ready to walk with you. When you are ready to receive the care you deserve, the Stephen Ministers are here.
Aging in Place
There’s no place like home. This is true when we are young and when we are older. Our Older Adults Safely at Home ministry seeks to help older adults age in place by helping with light home maintenance jobs and ensuring that their home is safe.
Our volunteers check to ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in place and functioning. In addition, we help to reduce tripping hazards and install safety railings. Contact the church office to learn more.
Stepping Out in Mission
There are people in need all around the world. As part of our efforts to help those in need locally, nationally, and globally, our community sponsors mission trips to extend our reach and increase awareness of the needs of others. Each year a delegation from our church travels to the Red Bird Mission in Kentucky to help with people’s housing needs.
In addition, we support the efforts of the United Methodist Committee on Relief, which provides disaster relief around the world. This may come in the form of financial donations, or putting together flood relief buckets or school supplies.
