Have you ever gone outside on a beautiful June day with a steady breeze blowing and exclaimed, “it’s a perfect day to fly a kite?” Or maybe, if kite flying isn’t your thing, you’ve gone out and said, “it’s a perfect day to go sailing!”
Not every day is a good day for these activities. When the wind isn’t steady, you may find your kite in the air for a little while, but then it will quickly drop to the ground, and you’ll have to wait for the next breeze. And when the wind is still, you’re likely to find yourself in the middle of the lake having to paddle your way to land. That’s why when the conditions are right, people want to take advantage of them.
The Holy Spirit is often compared to the wind. In John 3:8, Jesus tells us, “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
As we celebrate the day of Pentecost and the gift of the Holy Spirit this Sunday, we will proclaim with Jesus that the Spirit Is Moving! The question for all of us is, “are we eager to harness it and move with it?”
We pray that you’ll make time to be present with us in person or online as we gather for worship in our sanctuary at 10 a.m.
