“So where are you going today?”, your friend asks.
“Church”, you respond.
“Church? What’s going on there?”, she asks.
“Our Sunday worship service”, you reply.
“Worship? What’s that?”
How would you respond to your friend’s inquiry about what it is that you do at church on Sunday mornings? To be sure, there are many ways to respond to your friend’s question. For some, worship is a time to gather as a community and hang out with some really great people. For others, it’s a time to sing songs, old and new, and hear a, inspiring message. Some might respond that it’s a time to gather your thoughts and offer a prayer to God. And you know what? All of these responses are valid!
But what’s the Biblical view of worship? What does it mean that we come together as the body of Christ to worship the living God on a weekly basis? What are the key elements of our worship services and how do they feed our souls, draw us closer to God, and equip us to live in the world and not of it?
I hope that you’ll join me in pondering these questions together as we join in the ancient, but always modern tradition of worshiping God in our sanctuary this Sunday morning at 10a.
