One of my favorite activities when I go to the beach is to walk along the surf line where the waves meet the beach. As I do, I play with the waves and try to avoid getting my clothing wet as the waves crash along the shore. But I also love to see what treasures the waves have deposited on the beach. If you’ve every taken the time to do this, especially early in the day before anyone else has been to the beach, you know that all sorts of interesting items can find there way onto the shore: shells, seaweed, lost toys, bottles (yes, I even found a message in one way back when), and, of course, sea glass. In its natural state sea glass is trash. It is a shattered piece of something that once was a part of a whole, but now has been transformed by the waves, the sun, and the sand into something beautiful. What was once deemed trash has now become someone’s treasure. This Sunday, we will hear the story of a man who was cast out of the community and treated like trash, but then restored in body and spirit by the grace of Christ. Through his story, we will explore what it means to seek physical healing in our faith and the importance of being treasured in the eyes of a loving God. Join us for live worship online or in person this Sunday at 10 a.m., or recorded and ready for you when it’s convenient, as we affirm that we are all treasure in the eyes of Jesus – worthy of new life in the midst of our brokenness. |
