Most of us know the familiar Sunday School song “I Am the Church” that goes:
The church is not a building; the church is not a steeple;
the church is not a resting place; the church is a people.
I am the church! You are the church! We are the church together!
All who follow Jesus, all around the world! Yes, we’re the church together!

For many years we have sung that refrain, and yet, somehow, we’ve always found ourselves attached to our church building to as we define what it means to be the church.

Well, thanks to COVID-19, we have been evicted from our sanctuary for the time being and sent out into the world to redefine what it means to be the church without a building.

Throughout this update, you will find information on ways that we are reinventing our ministry and continuing to be the church without being in the church – and this is only the beginning! I am inviting everyone to look for the opportunities that are now available to us: how can we gather online in small groups to care for one another emotionally, physically, and spiritually? What are the opportunities for ministry to children online to help parents who need a break? What are the needs of our community in this unique time and how can we rise to the occasion.

In short, the First United Methodist Church of Blairstown is very much

OPEN FOR MINISTRY!

It’s simply taking a very different form than we’ve ever done before.
